Reinventing Geometric Linear Transformations in a Dynamic Geometry Environment: Multimodal Analysis of Student Reasoning

Abstract This paper reports the multimodal resources that attached to students’ reasoning in reinvention of specific geometric linear transformations (like reflections according axes, projections onto axes and composition reflections) a dynamic geometry environment. Following design heuristics Realistic Mathematics Education, we task (in ℝ 2 ) referring tools functions GeoGebra. Task-based interviews were conducted with pair algebra students, by way computer teacher. Data was collected using video camera observing working environment, screen recorder software, student production field notes. The data analysed paradigm focusing on all semiotic resources, such as gestures artefact use, addition written signs. According findings, verbal mathematical expressions interlaced emergence gestures. students mostly gestured when they faced new reflection situation describing associated actions. Finally, shared environment action, communication conveyed managed reinvent number transformations.
